What is the Ignite Programme?

The Ignite Programme is a life-changing package of support that helps disadvantaged and underrepresented students flourish at university. By fundraising for Ignite, you can help us end education inequality and help these students experience everything Southampton has to offer. 

Every year, we aim to welcome 60 new students onto the Ignite Programme to offer them an extensive three-year package of support and ensure they thrive in their studies.

100% of the money you fundraise will go directly into supporting these students at university. 

How you can change lives at Southampton

The difference the Ignite Programme can make to disadvantaged students is huge, and it all starts with you. 

The Ignite Programme supports a variety of students from underrepresented backgrounds. These are students that may be from low-income backgrounds, care-leavers, estranged from their parents, first-generation students, or having to balance their studies with caring for loved-ones. 

These students are often the ones that have the most to gain from university life, but may have obstacles in their way, preventing them from reaching their full potential. When you fundraise for the Ignite Programme, you help to give these students the support, skills, and confidence they need to turn their unique experiences and backgrounds into strengths and unlock their full potential. 

With a combination of financial, pastoral and emotional support, you can empower our students to excel in their studies and pave the way towards successful careers.

What your fundraising will support

Thanks to our donors, supporters, and community fundraisers like you, over 90 students have been able to benefit from all the Ignite Programme has to offer, but we still need your support to help even more disadvantaged students succeed at Southampton. 

£50 could give a student the chance to say yes to an opportunity, like attending a skills workshop or joining a student club

£100 could help a student feel secure by covering essential food and living costs

£250 could pay for a student to buy a new laptop for their course  

£500 could help towards a student's accomodation costs for a month

£1,000 could provide one student with a place on the Ignite Programme this September
